Brandywine and the Haunted Kitchen.

You know when things happen and you think, "well, that's an omen..." and not like the movie with Gregory Peck?

Well, this is one of those times.
First, my dishwasher stopped working. If it had been our whole family living here, I would have run (not walked, but RUN) to the store to get a replacement. As it is, there are two of us and the cats, so I decided that I would just wait, because the kitchen is on our "list of horrible things to deal with."

So I'm* doing the dang dishes (and who would've thought two people would make so many?) by hand twice a day, which is a pain in the rump.

*But sometimes I let them pile way up so that DL gets annoyed and does them. This happens about twice a month. After all, he eats, too!

Then it was one of the outlets. The garbage disposal wasn't working, and the reason was the ground fault kept tripping. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED IN THE 10 YEARS WE HAVE LIVED HERE UNTIL NOW! And it happens every day...so not only can I not use the garbage disposal (which I don't use that frequently, as we compost), but I can't use two of the electrical outlets in the kitchen (there are only three, so you can imagine how inconvenient this is).

Add to that the fact that the microwave handle broke off the door and we now have to pry it open with a paint stick (and the microwave is one of those built-in over-the-stove ones...)

You can see why I think my kitchen has some bad juju going on.

So I went to the local parade of homes to get some kitchen ideas, and while I love the shiny new kitchens, they are not right for my little cottage. We cannot blow out walls, nor can we co-opt space from another room. The shell of the kitchen must remain intact.

So I am perusing photos of every cottage kitchen I can...farmhouse is the trend right now, and while not exactly cottage, it does contain elements...and looking for inspiration.

But what I really want is a kitchen from The British Baking Show.Pastels and butcher block!
Open shelving!
A darling little pastel refrigerator!

Union Jack bunting!
I even started the copper collection already!!

Seriously...I want my kitchen to look like the 1940's dollhouse it was meant to be.

My friend Tammie is going to help me design the layout and I believe I have the cabinet guys picked out. (They will do an inset cabinet, which is a must, as I want the kitchen to have historically accurate elements as well as 2020 convenience.)

Meanwhile, I am dreaming of a pastel fridge.

Cannot wait to see what you do!! I LOVE a good remodel! Ask my husband... We loved it so much we did the kitchen three times in ten years! BTW... Drove past Brandywine yesterday morning on our way to Early Voting and saw your darling husband leaving! ❤️

I think the cosmos wanted you to get the remodel going, lol. I redid my kitchen (new paint, cabinets, countertops) a couple of years ago. I went with Soapstone countertops on the perimeter of my kitchen, and I *highly* recommend them!!! They are completely impervious to heat/stains/etc and look awesome. I have butcher block on my island and also love it. The pastel and butcher block looks great. I look forward to seeing what you come up with :-)

Glad it wasn't the Gregory Peck tpe of omen, stay away from that business.
I'm so excited for you!

You know, I've watched the British Baking Show countless times and never noticed that the cabinets were pastels! I'm so happy for you that you get to do your kitchen! And I see a little SMEG in your future.... FYI this is catch up w/ Kirby day so get ready.
