Menopause: Fashion over 55

There's an awful lot of information out there regarding fashion over fifty, but this article in the Daily Mail (UK) probably does the best job with helpful information (even thought they use the impossibly beautiful Amal Clooney, Julianne Moore and Dame Helen Mirren as their style examples. As if.).

However, they missed a few important tips that I thought might be crucial to your fashion over 55 style:

1. Eyelet and ribbon? Timeless.

2. A comfy and size-appropriate sweatshirt, terrycloth shorts, a tan and a good friend? Always in style. (RIP, Buckwheat. You were a good doctor and a great roommate.)

3. A black gown is always appropriate for jaunts around campus.

4. Wearing green? Accessorize with a red plaid purse, black patent shoes and a beagle.

No, really. Read the article and a lot of it makes sense. I'll be using a good portion of it as a guideline when I use the KonMari method of cleaning my closet this summer, hopefully after a career change. Honestly? I can't wait to haul all my crap out here into the living room and touch it to see if it brings me joy. I'm thinking the more wine I drink as I'm sorting through ten years of detritus, the more joyful I'll become, but that remains to be seen.

It's taken me YEARS - no, make that DECADES - to really clean out my closet. After retiring, I find I have basic, seasonal uniforms, but still kept all those career options, too. Why?? Can't remember the last time I wore a classic separates ensemble to the antique mall. Little by little, I'm whittling it down. I stayed the same size for decades, so it made it harder to give things up. A little muffin top changed all that, and made it easier to purge. Now I have a hard time walking past the colorful tee shirts in Sam's and WalMart. I do love all those styles shown in that article - that's my kind of style - except for the shoes in that lead photo. Not a fan.

Pretty girl, pretty lady! I still love a good sweatshirt and white shorts with tan legs. But now I need longer shorts. Much longer. LOL!
Have a great week, Kirbs.

I love that color blocked dress. And those looks are lovely. But it long shorts and long skirts for me. Maybe I should just buy a bunch of those black robes...

I read the article. I was not amused. My FAB is a little different then their FAB, Frumpy And Bloated.

Crap. Amal is a youngster, and why is she even mentioned in that article? I love those pics of you even more than I love Helen Mirren and Julianne Moore. But I'm not sure about these frocking trousers....
