Downton Worthy: For Mrs. Patmore

While Mrs. Patmore (she of the infamous "Do I look like a frolicker?") is suspicious of newfangled kitchen equipment, now that she is considering buying horseradish in a jar, can a Marsh cabinet be far behind?

DL found this original Marsh cabinet in pieces, in a dumpster. I wasn't with him at the time (he is occasionally allowed to sojourn without me), so when he came into the house to tell me that he had found something in a dumpster, I was leery.

The enamel top was gone (probably scavenged for another project at someone else's house), but the windows were intact and the hardware was there. I was thrilled.

A tabletop from that time DL bought the 12,000 random pieces of wood makes a great top and adds some rusticity. The case got a coat of black semi-gloss for easy wiping and there are off-white accents. The original Marsh medallion was re-affixed, and new wheels were added to the bottom. A brand-new back was put on (that was the missing piece) and everything shored up and squared. (One door is still a little wonky, but not terribly.)

If you read my Downton stuff on a regular basis, you may recall that at the end of last season, I predicted that Daisy and Mrs. Patmore would move to Mr. Mason's farm and write a cookbook together. I like to think that they would enjoy sitting here with a cuppa, discussing lemon curd.

Stay tuned for my recap on Sunday, and another Downton-related post next week!

I'm at Silver Pennies.

Amazing cabinet. I'm ready for a cuppa and some biscuits with lemon curd myself!

Lovely find and even better redux! Just starting into Season 6 now....if Anna ever stops crying I might make it to Episode 3.

I'm a fan of Hoosier/step-back/Marsh cabinets. No matter what you call them, they are charming. I have my grandmother's. It's been through some changes, too, but I still love it.

I have a hutch, open shelves. I would appreciate this cabinet very much. I can see all of us having a cuppa at the pig farm and admiring the ironstone, etc.

I'm sure Mrs. Patmore would approve of that cabinet. Now I need a cuppa...and some biscuits! ;)

Oh I like that cabinet! To bad about the top being missing. That's usually my favorite part. Did you do the work on the windows or was that already there? It's pretty.

Oh, man! Mr. Mason lost the farm so there probably won't be a connection there! Your fixed up cupboard is fabulous and definitely Mrs. Patmore worthy.
