Finishing Touches

While the majority of the hallway bathroom was done in March, I have spent the past couple of months adding the finishing touches.

I don't know about you, but I hate it when I run out of TP.  I added this tray (which looks like a French postcard) to the back of the toilet to hold an extra roll when we have guests, which is approximately four times a year.  We're pretty solitary here at the cottage.

Over the toilet, I put some artwork.  The two prints are from Obvious State, and I bought them on etsy.  I love the scale of them over the toilet.  (DL wanted a shelf, but I always think of my brother who had one of those big over-the-toilet towers fall on him when he was little.  Who wants stuff hitting him/her on the head as he/she tries to do his/her business?*)

The small picture is of Notre Dame Cathedral.  I got it because (a) I love France, and (b) DL went to Notre Dame. (Not this one though.  His was in Indiana.  No offense to Indiana folks, but Paris is a little more exciting than South Bend.)

A close-up of the artwork. It's on thick paper and it feels like it will stand the test of time.  There were some great choices; it was a tough decision.  I went with one quote from Henry James (British) and one Thomas Wolfe (North Carolinian). I have a 3rd poster by Truman Capote, and I may switch out the Henry James for Capote because it mimics the black/white ratio of the Wolfe poster.  We'll see.  Henry James can go to school with me, because next year I'm teaching all the British Lit classes.  (Then I might become one of those bloggers who changes out a picture and blogs about it.  You know who you are.)

This is the pic of Notre Dame.  It's from World Market, who did not provide this, though they should have.  I bought it with blood, sweat and tears.  And a credit card.

The new shower curtain is gray waffle-weave from Bed, Bath & Beyond.  Again, I purchased it.  It is nice and heavy and the cats don't seem to bother it, which is the standard by which I judge everything these days...whether or not it can be destroyed by crackhead cats.

I found this cute little thing at a junk sale and thought it would be great for holding soap next to the sink.  I love it, and if I get tired of it in the bathroom, I can put it in my collection of DPS (the white edition).

Last but not least, I found this darling wall pocket and hung it under the mirror.  It's a swan (I have swans throughout the house here and there, just because I like the idea that they mate for life.  The mute ones do, anyway.  So that means if I keep my mouth shut DL will keep me, I guess) and the pocket can hold a small flower or sprig of something.

So those are the finishing touches in the bathroom!  You know...until I switch out a picture or something.

*This is one of those examples where using the correct grammar gets really awkward.

Lovely touches in the bathroom.

I really need to do some nice touches in mine before our company arrives for our son's wedding!

You made great choices. Not easy to make a bathroom look classy but you did it 😀

I'm not sure if I'm bothered by your knowledge of swans or not, but the bathroom looks great, and I like South Bend.

Great finds for your bathroom. I grew up in the town Henry James lived in. I never visited the house although I think it's open to the public. There's a plaque outside.
