February Book Club

This month, our book was  A Snicker of Magic by Natalie Lloyd.

As someone who was a middle-school English/Language Arts teacher for 15 years, I have read a lot of fiction for young readers.  Without a doubt, 10 year-old Kirby would have LOVED this book.

It was TWEE.  And in 1970, twee was the bomb.

But probably because I've read so many books for older adolescents, twee just seems a little corny.  So I adjusted my attitude and skimmed back through it, trying to read it through the eyes of a ten year-old.

And I liked it a lot.

If you have a twee ten year-old girl in your life, this just might be the book for her. (Anything they're willing to read is helpful--just encourage them to read!)

Our next book is I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You--we'd love it if you'd read along!

Did my comment disappear? Argh.

I read it like you did...I tried to think like my former students. It wasn't my favorite book but I bet sine 4th or 5th grade girls should have loved it!
