What I found appealing…

(This is a picture of a picture, and therefore lousy)

I painted this three-drawer chest last fall, and loved it.  So did many of my readers.

Unfortunately, my customers did not…so there it sat, month after month, taking up space and not selling.

So I carted it back home, and gave it a coat of MMS milk paint in linen.

All of it.
Then I gave it a second coat—MMS Eulalie’s Sky.

Modifying a tip from 2 Little Superheroes (Danielle uses tape), I took a lint roller and got all the flaky paint off.

I put the chest on its back, put the drawers in, then traced a big circle on the front, using a compass made of a string, a pencil, and a thumbtack.  That way, I could get the circle the exact size I wanted.

I painted in the circle (2 coats), using a sponge brush for control.  The paint I used was Powder River Paint in Buckskin, and it was PERFECT!  You can get Powder River from Lorraine, here.

From there, it was a matter of tracing around a cut out of a bird, then drawing a weird little branch to paint.  For this, I used a paint pen, then filled in the bird with black paint.  (Also two coats.)

A little bit of extra distressing on and around the knobs, and two coats of clear wax.

If it doesn’t sell this time, it can live with me!

What did you find appealing?

Sharing this at MMS!

I'm finding this dresser makeover very appealing! Love it! Pinning it! And I'd be very surprised if it hung around too long ...

I love the new color and of course the bird.

If it doesn't sell, then you know it is meant to be yours.

I want to put pumpkins and spooks on top of your dresser. I find it very appealing.

I am fascinated! It's taken me over 2 years to finally spend 2 minutes painting the two sides of a picture frame that have always clashed with the wall it is hung on! I do love this dresser, despite my current barn swallow drama!

If I saw this in a shop I'd make a beeline for it. I'm serious. It's so unique and imaginative.

I liked the before, but I'm a sucker for all things bird. Great transformation! ~Ann

Nice job Kirbs! Love the color combo. Surely there's some raven lover out there that will fall head over heals at the sight of this and buy it.

I liked it both ways and sorry to read your knobs are distressed.

You're AMAZING Kirby - it's just gorgeous - have no doubt it'll see this time -
( and like you said, it can stay with you if it doesn't )
Isn't it amazing when pieces you think will fly out the door just sit forever?
I once did a piece that I thought was gorgeous - key words - I thought lol -
It sat for months and months - when I changed it out and made it boring it sold in one day
( I LOVE the original way you did it too- and can't believe it wasn't snatched up )

There is a buyer out there who is going to be so excited. She'll be like "oh my god, I love this dresser with the dark bird looking at me from his branch!" And she will take it home...and her husband will say..."WTF!"
Maybe that's just my husband...
Good to see your blog again Kirby. I was abducted by aliens but I'm back now.

Anything with birds on it, I love! I'm sure this will sell, but if not, I would love it in my home, too! Debbie :)

loved it blue, then loved it with the circle, but when you put the bird and branch on it then it moved past love to obsessed. lovely.
