(This is a picture of a picture, and therefore lousy)
I painted this three-drawer chest last fall, and loved it. So did many of my readers.
Unfortunately, my customers did not…so there it sat, month after month, taking up space and not selling.
So I carted it back home, and gave it a coat of MMS milk paint in linen.
All of it.
Then I gave it a second coat—MMS Eulalie’s Sky.
Modifying a tip from 2 Little Superheroes (Danielle uses tape), I took a lint roller and got all the flaky paint off.
I put the chest on its back, put the drawers in, then traced a big circle on the front, using a compass made of a string, a pencil, and a thumbtack. That way, I could get the circle the exact size I wanted.
I painted in the circle (2 coats), using a sponge brush for control. The paint I used was Powder River Paint in Buckskin, and it was PERFECT! You can get Powder River from Lorraine, here.
From there, it was a matter of tracing around a cut out of a bird, then drawing a weird little branch to paint. For this, I used a paint pen, then filled in the bird with black paint. (Also two coats.)
A little bit of extra distressing on and around the knobs, and two coats of clear wax.
If it doesn’t sell this time, it can live with me!
What did you find appealing?
