So...back to Brandywine, because this house is so DEMANDING!!!

While I was in Rhode Island, I found that there were a lot of elements there in Newport which can also be found here at Brandywine, solidifying my belief that the designers of Brandywine were...well, a little cuckoo.
outside a shop in Newport

The requisite blue hydrangea?

Check.

Great shutterdogs?

I got 'em!

Outdoor fireplace?

Yep!

The painted cedar shakes with the covered wires over it?
(Trust me, I have those things, but mine are far uglier.  I will spare you the photo.)

Dutch Door?

I have TWO!!

Which leads us to....

Strap hinges.

So, not only did DL and I have a great time (which we always do)...I got some good ideas from Newport to incorporate here at Brandywine!

I want a dutch door! A farm house should have one right? Maybe I need to take a vacation to get some fresh ideas....or do some video spying!

who knew you had a dutch door at brandywine. is it a front or back door entrance? I always wanted one but think we have to many flying critters to many months of the year to keep open.

I always picture Dutch doors existing so that your horse can lean in and chat. Or perhaps I just watched too much Mr. Ed.

Your outdoor fireplace is fabulous! What is up with the faces on the shelves? Love them.

You're about to piss me off! If you get some wrap hinges in addition to TWO Dutch doors, shutterdogs, AND an outdoor fireplace I may not be able to restrain myself.

I have never heard of a shutter dog. I thought it was you being clever, but now Karen says she is jealous, so I guess I should covet your shutter dogs too.

I still can't get over the fact that your house has a name! I've never heard of shutter dogs, either...must be an East Coast thing?

Love Dutch doors! BTW, the hydrangeas in Newport are just as stunning in October, if you can believe it... I drove my sister crazy commenting/raving about them. :)
